China has called for talks with Burma after the Burmese government suspended the building of an electric power dam. A statement by China's foreign ministry spokesman called on Burma for talks to deal with any problem from Myisone dam project. That statement also notes that both countries have agreed on the project after extensive studies were made. The statement was placed on the agency's website on Saturday. In 2009, China and Burma agreed to build the dam on the Irrawaddy river in northern  Burma. However, environmentalist and communities in the area have protested the project. They say the dam would flood a huge area and have harmful effect on the people and the environment.
