United States says it is stopping donations to the United Nations cultural agency after UNESCO gave Palestinian full membership. American law bars support for any UN agency that accepts Palestinian membership. The State Department said the UNESCO decision hurts chances for a complete Middle East peace plan. UNESCO members approved Palestinian membership by a vote of 107 to 14. 52 members did not vote. UNESCO is the first UN agency that Palestinians have sought to join since President Mahmoud Abbas asked General Assembly for full recognition of a Palestinian state.
