Taiwanese President Ma Ying-jeou says he would like to sign a peace treaty with China if the people of Taiwan agree. Mr. Ma spoke Monday in Taipei. Recent public opinion studies show him leading in the race for the presidency. His main competitor is opposition leader Tsai Ing-wen. Elections are planned for January. China considers Taiwan a revel province. But Taiwanese self-rule has been in place since the end of Chinese civil war in 1949.
