Thousand of Chinese demonstrated outside Japanese Embassy in Beijing

Thousands of Chinese activists have demonstrated outside the Japanese Embassy in Beijing. They were protesting steps Japan has taken to act on its claim of complete control over a group of disputed islands in the East China Sea. Protesters threw rocks and burned Japanese flags at the Japanese Embassy. But riot police kept them from breaking through a barrier. The protests are the latest in the series of demonstrations that began Tuesday. At that time Japan said it had bought the islands from a private owner. China claims the territory. The dispute intensified Friday after China sent six ships to the waters around the unpopulated islands.
