Pakistan is rejecting reports that it caused NATO forces to launch air strikes into Pakistan on Sunday. Afghan officials reported Sunday that NATO and Afghan forces were attacked along the Pakistani border from a base in Pakistan. NATO answered the attack with air strikes that killed at least 24 Pakistani soldiers. On Monday, Pakistani General Athar Abbas said Pakistani forces began firing only after the soldiers were killed. He said NATO and Afghan officials were not telling truth about what happened.

The South Korean Parliament has approved a free trade agreement with the United States. The bill passed with wide support during a special parliamentary meeting Tuesday. But some opposing lawmakers and protesters reacted violently to the decision. In the Parliament, a small group of opposition lawmakers shouted protests against the vote. They also set off tear gas. Outside Parliament, hundreds of protesters clashed with police. The protesters tried to hold candlelight ceremony. But police armed with water cannons stopped them. The Korea-US Free Trade Agreement was signed over four years ago. But lawmakers in both countries did not approve the agreement until now.

Recently, Trans-Pacific Partnership is the talk of Japanese. If it starts, price of many things in Japan is expected to change. Most of Japanese industries have got their profit from export, so may businesses have welcomed it. But, many farmers are opposing it because their products will lose to low imported products in price. Privately, I welcome low-priced imports, but at the same time I am really anxious about ruin of Japan's farming.

China is criticizing the West for its latest steps to punish Iran for its nuclear program. China's foreign ministry official Liu Weimin said the newest actions could hurt chances for peace and security. China's declaration follows similar statements from Russia's foreign ministry. Russia called the Western sanctions unacceptable and against international law. On Monday, the United States, Canada and Britain each announced steps to increase pressure against Iran because of concerns that it is developing nuclear weapons.

President Obama is flying home after a nine-day Asia-Pacific trip that took him into Hawaii, Australia and to Indonesia where he had a meeting of East Asian leaders. Less hours before he left Indonesia, Mr. Obama and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met to discuss economic issues. Administration officials said Mr. Obama called for China to change the value of its money. The two leaders also talked about freedom of sea transport in the South China Sea. Earlier Mr. Wen had warned against what he called "outside interference" in dispute over the South China Sea which also involve the Philippines, Vietnam and some other Asian countries.

The British Medical Association has urged the government to ban smoking in private cars at all times to protect people from the risk of second-hand smoke. Britain already bans smoking in public vehicles such as buses and trains. There is no law against smoking in private cars. The government banned smoking in public places such as restaurants in 2007. That has avoided smoking bans for private areas. Some countries including Australia, Canada and parts of the United States have already banned smoking in cars when children are present. But no country has banned all smoking in private vehicles.

I do not smoke, so it is a good news. I had thought that Barak Obama was a smoker until now but I have learned he has recently given up smoking from the related news. Japanese PM Yoshihiko Noda is a smoker. I wonder whether he try to give up smoking after hearing Obama's news, or not.

Police invaded the Rocinha slum early Sunday morning. It is the largest slum in the city. About 100,000 people live there. It is built on a hill near some of Rio's richest areas. Its location near the center of the city has made it one of Rio's main illegal drug centers.

I found an interesting book in a library that I have used every weekend. The book's title is "Sakano no Oroshi-kata"（魚のおろし方）. It shows many ways to process fishes meeting their forms. People in Japan eat many fishes so this kind of book is published, I think.

I felt my skill has improved when I processed "Haze"（ハゼ） after I saw how to do it in the book.

The International Atomic Agency says it has believable information that Iran is trying to develop nuclear weapons. The UN agency released a report in Vienna Tuesday. It says its evidence shows Iran has tried to design a nuclear weapon and has tested some parts of it. The agency expressed serious concern about the information. Iran's Pars news agency says the Iranian ambassador to the IAEA rejected the report. Ali Asghar Soltanieh called the report unbalanced and political. Iran has denied the charge for a long time. He says its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

I don't know why "Western" are so nervous about the Iran's nuclear program. As you know, there are a lot of countries that have nuclear weapons. It is not a weird thing that Iran is trying to have the mass destruction weapons that "Western" have.

I bought "Samue"（作務衣） through on-line shopping several day ago.　"Samue" is used as work clothes by Buddhist monks, but now general people can use it as a wear at home (but mainly by elder people). Why did I get it ? Because now I am becoming interested in Buddhism.

China says a Tibetan nun has died after setting herself on fire in southwestern China. She is the 11th Buddhist religious worker to set themselves on fire in the area. The official Xinhua news agency says 35 year-old Quio Xiang died at a road-crossing in Shichuan province. A witness told the VOA's Tibetan service he found the woman covered in gasoline before she set the fire. She said she was prepared to sacrifice for greater freedoms and the return of Tibet's exiled spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama. On Wednesday the head of the Tibetan government in exile told the United States to press China for more openness in the area, so that the protests can be investigated. Lobsang Sangay also denied Chinese accusations that his exile government has urged Tibetan Buddhists to set themselves on fire.

American law bars support for any UN agency that accepts Palestinian membership. The State Department said the UNESCO decision hurts chances for a complete Middle East peace plan. UNESCO members approved Palestinian membership by a vote of 107 to 14. 52 members did not vote. UNESCO is the first UN agency that Palestinians have sought to join since President Mahmoud Abbas asked General Assembly for full recognition of a Palestinian state.
