Norwegian climate scientists say the Arctic has been loosing 45,000 square kilometers of ice cover yearly over the past 20 years. They say the thinning polar ice has opened new passages for ships across the north. And they say that could make trade between Europe and Asia 40 percent faster than using the Suez Canal. Norwegian foreign minister Jonas Gahr Stoere recently brought American Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the city of Tromso. She visited in the area which could hold 20 percent of the world's undiscovered oil and gas supplies. The United State Geological Survey say they could be worth 9,000,000,000,000 dollars. She said many countries are looking at the possibilities for exploration of the Arctic for its resources.
